about me
Hi! My name is Marwin. My pronouns are they/them. I am a human and therapist living and working in Philadelphia, PA.
My professional background includes a range of experiences. As a licensed clinical social worker, I’ve provided therapy and case management in various outpatient settings, including primary care clinics, community mental health agencies, and now in my private practice. I’ve focused on serving HIV+ individuals, LGBTQ+ community, and neurodivergent people, among others. Before my life as a social worker, I worked as a cooperative grocery produce manager and buyer. My social locations include being white, Jewish, queer, trans, temporarily able bodied, and existing with lived experience of ADHD / neurodivergence.
Here are some things I love: being in nature, Star Trek, board games, making art, making bad puns, gardening, swimming, mutual aid and organizing for justice, over 100 varieties of apples, drinking coffee, stickers, the Shehechianu, the Phillies and the Eagles, riding my motorcycle, wearing hoodies, and my 3 cats.
my background and approach
It is my intent to create a non-pathologizing and affirming therapy space, especially for those who experience marginalization and inequity in their lives and experiences. I am an affirming (and experienced) provider for those who practice polyamory or kink, people with ADHD, autistic people, people who have been diagnosed with "personality disorders" or identify with specific diagnoses or features; sex workers, and people who use drugs. Also, I am happy to discuss COVID related concerns and discuss and negotiate safety practices with you. I bring a liberation oriented, queer, and trauma-informed lens to our work.
My approaches to therapy draw from Internal Family Systems (IFS); Gestalt Therapy theory; EMDR, Relational-Cultural Therapy, Intersectional Feminism, harm reduction, and somatic interventions. I see healing and change as not just individual but community and relational processes; and my orientation to approaching suffering, healing, and change is not rooted in a model of pathology. The body's response to suffering or surviving traumatic environments can take many different forms and even "harmful" thoughts, feelings, or behaviors may have come to serve an important purpose. With support, we can intuitively move towards growth, wholeness, and connection.
I support neurodivergent people with finding balance between honoring their needs and meeting obligations. I can also offer my case management background to support you with things like navigating benefits, health insurance, resources, etc.)
The lens/experiences I bring into our space, and the lens/experiences you bring, as well as our environment, shape our interactions and relationship. I am committed to attending to how different systems we are part of affect you, me, and our work.
Widener Univ. 2017, Master of Social Work
Gestalt Institute of Philadelphia: I completed a 3 year, ~350 hrs training and practicum in Gestalt Therapy in 2023.
Internal Family Systems Institute: I completed a ~90 hr level 1 training in IFS, and will be completing a level 2 training in Feb 2025. I also regularly meet with a mentor for ongoing clinical/professional support, who is EMDR certified and level 2 IFS trained.
EMDR: I completed a ~40 hour training, an additional 10 hours of professional consultation/guidance; and I am working towards EMDRIA certification (sometime in 2025 - I’m currently completing an additional 20 hours of professional consultation/guidance.)
Peer Supervision: I regularly meet with a small, trusted group of therapist colleagues, and my mentor, to discuss my experiences of our work, and how I am showing up for my clients. Ongoing supervision is critically important to support me with accountability and taking care of myself. This helps me appropriately and ethically support my clients.
